Stop everything you're doing and watch this!

I had another post planned for today, but then I watched this video and had to share it.
Why?
Jane Andraka is the mother of two innovative teenagers. One of her sons invented a detection test for pancreatic canter that is cheap and effective before he turned 16! In this video Jane explains how she helped her children to realise their potential and develop their creativity more than any school today can (while keeping them in school at the same time).
As a parent I think this is what we all want to do, to help our (as she puts it) little acorns grow into the mighty oaks that they can be when given the right environment.
This talk really resonated with me, especially with the constant debates about schools, and the government making them more and more restrictive, implementing methods that contradict all the research and experience I have read and heard about on talks such as this one by Sir Ken Robinson.
Jane talks about the importance of taking responsibility and being involved in your child’s education. However, I feel that in order to do that we first have to take responsibility over our own lives and development. Just as we can’t sit and wait for others to teach our children life skills, we can’t sit and wait for others to make our lives better for ourselves either!
The main reasons I started this blog were to exercise my own learning and personal growth, while sharing the ideas and tools I am learning about with other parents so they can do the same. The hope is that the result will be happy, fulfilled parents that can share their knowledge to their children.
The internet enables us to pick up excellent ideas at the click of a button. My hope is that tools you pick up in this blog will enable you to implement those ideas in to your lives in a fun and easy way, and of course help you in your journey as a parent.
So back to Jane. Once you watch the video, read this article where she expands on what she spoke about in a bit more detail.
Did you enjoy the talk?
What other ideas do you have to encourage your children to learn and develop their creativity?
Have a brilliant day,
Inbal
